Blair Hughes-Stanton
In the renaissance of wood engraving Blair Hughes-Stanton stands out as significant both for his printed work and for his inspiration as a teacher. Born into an artistic family, he trained at the Byam Shaw School of Art and then at Leon Underwood's School of Painting and Sculpture where he learned wood engraving, a medium which he explored further in the late 1920s. In 1930 he started work at the Gregynog Press, returning in 1933 to London where he established his own Gemini Press. He taught at the Central School from 1950 to 1979.
