Mohammed Namazi
Born Tehran, Iran, 1981.
Mohammad Namazi is an artist and researcher working through means and processes of unlearning, transformation, telematics, network and media technologies within social and cultural realms. His studio operates as a research-lab for inter-disciplinary projects that span immersive experiences, coding, video, sound, events, kinetic and electronic sculptures, DIY publications, internet-based artworks, alternative archives, and community-based projects.
Namazi received his doctorate from Chelsea College of Arts in 2019. Prior to the PhD, he completed an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts and an MA in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art. From 2020 to 2021, he completed a year-long fellowship at the Decolonising Arts Institute, which resulted in the publication of his artist’s book, How to See the Unheard.
He has received multiple grants and residencies, including the Arts Council England (DYCP grant), the Decolonising Arts Institute, Index Collective ‘Wort und Wirkung’ artist residency (Zurich) and the John Latham MFI Residency award. Namazi is a member of Critical Practice Research Cluster and has exhibited at venues such as Venice Biennale (Croatian Pavilion, 2024), Château de Montsoreau (Montsoreau, 2024), Estación Terrena (Bogotá, 2022), Pejman Foundation (Tehran, 2022), Museum & Study Collection (London, 2022), NEoN Digital Festival (Dundee, 2019), BALTIC 39 (Newcastle, 2016), Corner College (Zürich, 2016), Transart Triennale (Berlin, 2016) and the Barbican (London, 2015). He teaches in the BA Fine Art department at Central Saint Martins, and in the BA Media Arts department at Royal Holloway, University of London.
