Started doing millinery and selling hats at 16 and making clothes by 19.
Foundation and first year fashion at St Martins and left to start his own business in 1983.
He came to the attention when the late Princess of Wales, Baroness Thatcher, Duchess of Cornwall, Countess Wessex and Sarah, Duchess of York wore his designs.
