Kenneth Clark was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and came to London to study art after being demobbed from the armed forces following the Second World War. Between 1945 and 1948 he studied Painting and Drawing at the Slade School of Fine Art and pottery under Dora Billington at the Central School. From 1949 he taught at the Central School, where he remained a visiting lecturer until 1987. He also taught at Camberwell School of Art 1949-51 and Goldsmiths College 1951-58.

He founded Kenneth Clark Pottery in Old Gloucester Street, London, in 1952. His partner - Anne Reeves - was a fellow student from the Central School and they married in 1951. They have worked very closely together ever since. They have worked on a very wide range of ceramic commissions including work for The Design Centre, John Lewis, Denby and Bristol Potteries and several restoration projects, whilst they are also well known for their tile panels. In 1983 he published The Potters Manual.
