Colin Cina
Colin Cina is an abstract painter, born in 1943 in Scotland. He studied at Glasgow School of Art 1961 – 63 and then at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, from which he graduated with an Honours Diploma in Art and Design in Fine Art Paining in 1966. He was awarded a Peter Stuyvesant Foundation Bursary in the same year, which enabled Cina to travel in America for several months – an experience which would have a significant impact on his art practice. He has exhibited frequently - represented by Flowers Gallery in the UK since 1972 - including solo shows at the Serpenine Gallery in 1970 and 1980, and has more than 20 works in national and public collections in the UK and abroad including the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Konsthallen, Goteborg, Sweden, and The Arts Council of Great Britain.
Cina has also made a significant contribution to Higher Art education. He has taught at several UK art schools including the University of Newcastle, Manchester College of Art, Central School of Arts & Crafts and as Head of Painting at Wimbledon School of Art in the 1970s. He served as Dean of Art at Chelsea College of Art & Design from 1989 to 1998, and as Head of Chelsea from 1998 – 2003. Upon retirement in 2003 he was made Emeritus Professor of Fine Art at University of the Arts London. He was an elected staff member of the initial Governing body of the London Institute for many years, served as Chair of the UK National Association for Fine Art Education 1989-90 and was a member of the 1989 founding commttee of the European League of InsGtutes of the Arts (ELIA).
Colin Cina has lived in South West France since 2003.
