Tony Wilson

Birth Date: 1944

Tony Wilson (1944-) is a printmaker, painter and teacher, born in Birmingham. He studied at the College of Art there, 1960–4, then at Central School of Art & Design, 1964–6. In 1966, Wilson visited Madrid and southern Spain and married the artist Julia Bint. He was a visiting lecturer at Ravensbourne College of Art, Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Hornsey College of Art, 1966–74, in 1974 being appointed senior lecturer at Camberwell, where he founded and oversaw the Camberwell College of Arts fine art printmaking course between 1987–97. After resigning his principal lectureship there in 1997, he was appointed principal lecturer and head of painting and printmaking at the University of Brighton. He was co-author of the research programme involving the collaboration of Chelsea and Camberwell Colleges of Art: The Integration of Computers, Print Technology and Printmaking, 1994–97. In 2002, he was awarded an AHRB research grant to develop the “‘Requiem’ for Two First World War Soldiers” paintings, prints and book publication.

He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Britain and abroad.

His work is in public and private collections in Britain, continental Europe, Korea and America.
