Sefi Amir
Sefi Amir- General Manager / Co-Owner
Sefi graduated Concordia University in Fine Arts and moved to London to complete her master’s at Central Saint Martin’s. Having waited tables through school (Gordon Ramsay’s The Narrow, Sparrow) she decided to trade in the financial struggles of being an artist for the financial struggles of owning a small business in Quebec. She’s equally likely to be found behind the counter at the butcher shop, in the dining room at Lawrence, or sleeves rolled up fixing blocked drains in the basement. She remains the Lawrence in-house artist and her work can be found on much of their promotional material.
Amir's work explores serious themes - love, loneliness, fear - but always with an element of humour. Choosing from an eccentric agglomeration of characters, locations and scenarios, her paintings seek to unite diverse elements into a credible mythology whereby normally docile reality is aroused, disturbed and returned to the realm of the idea. Sefi's work has been exhibited in Canada and the United Kingdom.
