Dorothy Larcher
Dorothy Mary Larcher (1882-1952) born in London. Larcher studied fine art at Hornsey School of Art, London, where she later taught. In 1914 Larcher went to India. She taught and lived in Calcutta until 1921. It was in India that she first saw textiles being printed by hand. Soon after her return, Larcher went to stay in the Cotswolds with her friends, William and Eve Simmonds. It was in their home at Far Oakridge that Larcher was first to see an early example of Barron's hand-block printed textiles. Back in London Larcher went to visit the Brook Street Gallery where she saw more of Barron's hand-blockprinted textiles. A meeting was arranged, and subsequently Larcher joined Barron's studio in Hampstead.
