Studied art at the Birmingham College of Art (1912-1914) and the Central School of Arts and crafts (1919-1922) under A.S. Hartrick and Noel Rooke. Best known for his illustrations for the Rupert Bear strip cartoon in the Daily Express (1935-65) and for drawings for the Rupert annuals (1935-1973).
