Lucian Bernhard
Birth Date: 1883
Death Date: 1972
Lucien Bernhard can be counted as one of the most important and influential poster designers and typographers of the twentieth century. His early poster designs, from 1906 onward, played a crucial role in establishing the radical sachplakat (object poster).
Probably Berlin's most famous graphic artist, Bernhard was a founder member of the Berlin school, its exhibition society and its journal Das Plakat. In 1922 he accepted an invitation to work and lecture in New York, and never returned to Germany.
His work in the USA is credited with having established the importance of trademarks, branding and typographic style within advertising.
