Dora Batty. An artist and designer who worked in several media, little is known about her early life and education. She is well known for her London Underground posters - she produced over 50 - and for her advertising work for MacFisheries. As a textile designer she worked for Barlow & Jones and Helios. As a ceramic designer she worked for Poole Pottery, most notably on their farmyard series for children. She was also an illustrator and her work was included in the 'Britain can make it' exhibition in 1946. From 1932 she taught textile design at the Central School and was Head of Textiles from 1950-58. Her innovative teaching methods attracted a number of well-known designers to the staff.
