Sarah Van Niekerk
She studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts (1951-54) under Gertrude Hermes, her maiden name was Sarah Hall. She also studied at the Slade (1954 -55) under William Coldstream. A wood engraver, lino cutter and printmaker, Van Niekerk was much influenced by Gertrude Hermes, who taught her wood engraving and zoological drawing. She has illustrated a number of books including several for the Folio Society. She taught wood engraving at the RA Schools from l976-86.
