Victor Pasmore

He worked in local government as a clerk in County Hall, London, from 1927 to 1937. He studied in the evenings at the Central School. Sir Kenneth Clark became his patron, freeing him to paint full time. He was a founding member of the Euston Road School with William Coldstream and Claude Rogers in 1937. He taught painting at Camberwell from 1943 to 1949 and Basic Design at the Central School under William Johnston from 1949 to 1953. At this time he changed his style of painting and printmaking from representational to abstract. From 1954 to 1961 he was Director of Fine Art, University of Newcastle. He was a member of the London Group and was elected RA in 1983.
