A sculptor and printmaker, Paolozzi studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, the Slade and in Paris from 1947 to 1950. He taught textile design at the Central School from 1950 to 1955 and sculpture from 1955 to 1956 at St. Martins School of Art. He taught Basic Design to textile designers along with other members of the influential Independent Group at the Central in the 1950s under William Johnstone. He was elected RA in 1979.
