Mary Oliver

During WW2 Mary Oliver worked as an Architectural Pattern Maker making models of landing beaches. She was an evening student at the Central School until 1947 when she studied in the Textile department under Dora Batty from 1947 - 1950. Her teachers included Bernard Adeney,
Hans Tisdal, Bernard Meninsky and Morris Kestelman. Memorable contemporaries were Mary Harper, John Drummond and Diana Armfield. She worked freelance for Donald Brothers and Edinburgh Weavers and Mary Oliver Textiles was a subsidiary of Donald Brothers from 1966-1970 . She also produced work for Brintons, Parker Knoll, G.P.& J.Baker and Cavendish Textiles and Heals.From the onset of the Common Market she regularly displayed work at the European Trade Fair for designers. She also taught part time at the RCA, Farnham College and Leicester Polytechnic.
