The painter and printmaker came to England in 1950. He studied at St Martin's School of Art and at the Central School. His teachers included Merlyn Evans, Keith Vaughan and William roberts. He taught etching himself at the Central School. He is particularly known for his work on mezzotints. He won the Stet Prize in 1970 at the Biennale in Florence and in 1986 the Christie's Contemporary Prize in London.
