Morris Kestelman

From 1922 to 1925 he studied at the Central School under Hartrick and Meninsky. From 1926 to 1929 he was at the RCA, where his interest in theatre design developed. He designed a number of plays at the Old Vic and Sadler's Wells during the late '30s and '40s. He taught at the Wimbledon School of Art and from 1936 taught life drawing at the Central School. He was Head of the School of Painting and Sculpture from 1951 to 1971 thus influencing many students. He was a prolific painter, changing his style dramatically in later life to become more abstract. He had a number of one-man exhibitions of work and was elected to the London Group in 1951 and RA in 1995.
