Hope trained at the Central School and the Slade. In 1926 she won the Prix de Rome for her etching 'The Adoration of the Shepherds', which was shown at the Royal Academy. In 1935 she went to South Africa where she started the Department of Printmaking and Engraving at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, UCT. In 1938 she became Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, until 1957.
