W. Bernard Adeney

Studied at the RCA, the Slade and the Academie Julienne in Paris and became well known as a painter. He was closely involved in the founding of a number of societies for the arts, including the London Group in 1913, the National Society of Painters and the London Artists' Association. He taught at the Central School from 1904 to 1914 and, after the First World War, from 1918 to 1947. Adeney ran the School of Drawing and Design from 1908 to 1930, during which time one of his students was Enid Marx. He became the head of the School of Textiles from 1930 to 1947. Although few of his own textiles have been traced, he is known to have designed for Donald Brothers.
