Huayi Liao
Huayi Liao is a graphic designer and illustrator from Guangxi, China. Growing up in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, she has long been drawn to the overlooked and forgotten stories embedded in local culture. Her practice explores how local identity is shaped and reshaped through the tension between minority and mainstream cultures, particularly during times of social change and migration. Through archival materials, visual narrative, film making and publications, she re-examines local histories from multiple perspectives and seeks to create emotional resonance as a form of connection.
