William Palmer Robins
William Palmer Robins (1882-1959)
A landscape painter, lithographer and etcher also an essayist and book illustrator. As a child William studied at Roan's School in Greenwich followed by Saint Martin's School of Art and Goldsmith's College.
He taught at St Martins School of Art for 20 years and was Head of Etching at head of etching at Central School of Arts & Crafts.
In all he produced some 160 etchings together with some aquatints, wood engravings and lithographs. He favoured flat landscapes, largely devoted to trees of which the beech was his favourite, that were etched direct onto the plate from nature.
He was a member of the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers also a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers. He exhibited in the UK, Venice, Florence, Paris, Zurich and Los Angeles.
