Andrea Hsiang-En Liu
Born in Orange County, California, Andrea Liu is an artist and designer. She is currently studying MA Textiles at the Royal College of Art where she continues to delve deeper into crafting with fish skins and waste.
While studying BA Textile Design at Central St. Martins (2015--2018), she specialised in woven textile design. She focuses on material research, sustainable - circular design, and on- and off-loom woven construction. She approaches every project with the goal of turning waste into material of value.
The waste material that she dedicates her time to re-define, re-evaluate and re-vive is salmon skins that are found in the waste bins of smokeries, restaurants, factories and fishermen. Motivated to work in a 100-percent chemical-free environment and zero-waste practice, she actively adopts traditional practices of dyeing, tanning, spinning and weaving.
