Artist Info
Richard Malone
Richard Malone is a designer and multi-disciplinary artist, 29.
He graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2014, where he was awarded the prestigious LVMH Grand Prix scholarship. His graduate collection was awarded the Deutsche Bank Award for Fashion.
He showed at Fashion East for several seasons before presenting his AW17-AW19 collections as part of the NEWGEN scheme with the British Fashion Council. He was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize 2019.
Malone has an unwavering commitment to sustainability and is strongly against the concept of mass production, often releasing collections in strictly limited numbers.
Malone has become the fashion industry go-to for authenticity, resourcefulness and rebellion.
In February 2020, rounding off the meteoric first chapter of his career, Malone was named the winner of the International Woolmark Prize - praised by the panel of judges for his ‘radically transparent’ working practise, revolutionary approach to research and a redefined notion of luxury.
His garments have become highly collectable and, in 2017, Malone was part of the Museum of Modern Art New York's first fashion exhibition in more than 60 years, entitled ‘Is Fashion Modern?’. Following the show, Malone became one of the youngest artists in history to be added to the museum's permanent collection.
