Tamenaga Shunsui (為永春水) is a playwright of the late Edo period. He was active in the genre called Ninjo bon (人情本, a love story dealing with the townsfolk in Edo) in the late Edo period.
In 1841, during the Tempo Reforms (天保の改革下), he was sentenced to 50 days in handcuffs for the lewdness of his novels, which he suffered from, and he drank heavily and died of mental and physical diseases.
