DescriptionThe children in the foreground are playing with a koma-mawashi (独楽回し, a spinning top), while the children at the back are playing with soap bubbles. Soap bubble sellers appeared from the Edo period onwards, and as domestic production of soap flourished in the Meiji period, soap bubble games spread to various parts of the country and are assumed to have been a common pastime for children.
