Description from BAMS Student Medal Project XXXI 2018:
'With a rapid economic development in recent years, China is facing a serious problem of disparity between the rich and the poor. The theme of the medal is about the migrant rural workers who are treated as low-end population. They cannot take root in the cities and also their homes were demolished by the government. They worry about basic livelihoods every day. The obverse of the medal shows them rushing forward to fight for their own food, desperate to live; the reverse expresses how the migrant workers are homeless and carry everything on their backs, heavy beyond their endurance. Winner of The Herbie for use of the medal to make a social or political statement relating to a controversial topic in current affairs. In this case it is of migrant workers in China, but it could just as well apply in the UK or other countries around the world.'
