DescriptionBronze medal from the British Art Medal Society student project 2018, titled (R)EVOLUTION. Description from BAMS Student Medal Project XXXI 2018:'Through this medal I intend to capture the feeling of conflict, anger and unsafety felt by non-binary people in Western society and how they are fighting against it. The medal follows the research and essay I wrote on gender roles and gender fluidity over the last two hundred years. For centuries, society has been imposing a dichotomic system of binary gender: two opposite sides that complement each other or defy each other (much like a conventional medal). However, gender is a human experience that cannot be categorised as a simple duality but rather as a complex ""fluidity"". The hands, coming from each side of the medal, bend and break it, a gesture of rebellion against the obsolete system that categorises, represses and hurts the complexity of sexual identity? Winner of the Grand First Prize for overall excellence in the medallic medium, awarded annually by the Worshipful Company of Founders.'"
