DescriptionA coptic bound publication, encased in a book cloth bound hardcover, that critiques the colonial foundations of Western Arts Education. The cover of the publication features a digital Illustration printed with a photo polymer etching plate.

Description by the artist:
Wait, Watch and Wonder is a dark red hardbound publication with an debossed spine
stating ‘resources for a decolonial curriculum’ and a photo polymer etching print of a
Buddhist knot illustration debossed into the face of the book, all encasing coptic bound
and glued edges. The construction of this book is not solely for physical security but an
urgency for Global Majority perspectives to be permanently protected from the colonial
gaze that interferes with how these various narratives are transmitted from the source to
the learner.

Throughout the pages, the visual language explores methods of decolonial education
through ideas of interconnectedness as a critique to the rigid hierarchies placed between
the student and the teacher. Which can be seen through the circular typesetting of the
quotes and chapters, alongside the text wrapped paragraphs which lock into the halftone
images. There are also themes of freedom illustrated through the white space and breathability of the paragraphs to communicate the agency that students have to enhance their engagements and realisations of themselves and the world.
