DescriptionAndrea studied MA Biodesign at Central Saint Martins. She says, 'Jewellery carries the weight of an extractive legacy. For centuries, value has been dictated by scarcity: the rarer, the “precious”. But what if worth could emerge not from what we take, but from what we nurture?
This research redefines jewellery by collaborating with the bacterium, Sporosarcina Pasteurii, to establish new standards where value grows from life, not loss.
'Micromentum' embodies a shared design process: human and microbial rhythms take turns, influencing each other to grow unexpected ring forms.
Inside controlled microenvironments the bacteria colonises hydrogels and gradually precipitates calcium carbonate. Each ring materialises this dialogue, redefining jewellery through patience, care, and bacterial expression'.
