DescriptionSophia studied MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication. She introduces us to the Euripides quote: 'What greater grief than the loss of one's native land', and then goes on to say: 'Dhivehi Rajje, known by the rest of the world as the Maldives, is a country usually thought of in only two ways. The first, as an exotic paradise, and the second, as a sinking land running out of time in the climate crisis.
Magey Raajje Nethidhanee explores the Maldives from the perspective of the island country as the artist’s home - as a place rich in community and culture. Through the destruction of personal photographs, the work shows how much more than land alone will be lost to increasing heat and rising tides'.
