Description from the designer:
The collection is centered around the “true” story of a UFO crash that was covered up in the town of Aurora, Texas. I want to build off of this story and imagine how the residents in the town might mutate and transform as a result of concealing this crash. Over the course of the collection, I wanted the looks to morph from relatively recognizable silhouettes into otherworldly creatures. Overall, I wanted the collection to be an exploration of my experience growing up in Texas, and my state’s proclivity for burying things that are “different”.
I wanted the materiality to reflect the alien aspect of the research. Almost if you saw the collection from a distance it might appear somewhat normal, but up close it's something otherworldly. I chose to set this narrative in the 1950’s, as I think Texans have a very naive view of this time frame as the last time America was “great”. To incorporate this, I identified the archetypes of 1950’s aesthetics and made them slightly off. For example, this corset is based on very traditional underpinnings of the time.
