Description from the designer:
Wind and Spirit (2024) is a 9-minute video work exploring breath, landscape, and embodied connection. It was filmed in the open moorlands of Yorkshire, where I play the Sulur, a tribal wind flute, in a single continuous breath. The piece is a quiet encounter between body and land, where the act of playing becomes both a form of offering and a moment of deep listening.
The flute’s sound is carried by the wind, shaped by the terrain, and held within a still frame, where the focus is on being present with the elements, feeling how breath and wind overlap, how stillness holds tension, and how the body remembers without words. The work invites the viewer to slow down, to sense, and to listen with more than just their ears.
The piece continues my interest in ecological storytelling, ancestral knowledge, and embodied memory. Though the flute itself is not from my cultural lineage, I’ve come to it through curiosity, respect, and an openness to cross-cultural learning. Wind and Spirit sits at the threshold of personal ritual and collective resonance, drawing attention to how we connect with place, sound, and breath as ways of grounding and becoming present.

This work also marks the beginning of a repurposed discovery of movement-based practice, where dance and music become expanded tools for improvisation, sensory awareness, and ecological attunement.
