DescriptionA pencil illustration of a man in a sleeping position, created using the blind contour technique. It was awarded the Cecil Collins Memorial Prize in 2024.
Description by the artist:
"My friend George was having a quick mid-work nap. I captured his position, loosely applying the blind contour technique, drawing the subject without looking at the paper. In practice, the drawing of the line is connected to the movement of the eye, which is meticulously tracing along the contours of the subject. It makes for a somewhat tactile, intuitive approach to drawing. I resonated with Cecil’s words in Fools and Angels, on the artist’s brush being an extension of the body.”
