DescriptionShamim Ghaderi studied BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. She says: Inspired by Persian Miniatures, my work nods to the craft tradition whilst resisting Eurocentric paradigms of East and West. Beyond these boundaries, contemporary narratives are interwoven within the forms of the painting; a proverbial baton from the past to hereafter. Inspired by graffiti in Iran, I bring a sense of permanence to intimate confessions of the street by utilising Persian Miniature motifs, typically used to represent tales of grandeur. Ideas of intimacy and gentle protest are reflected through the Narcissus flower motif- a symbol for the Eyes of the Beloved in Persian Literature. Such a confession is sweet, humorous, and scandalous.
