Animation and illustrations description:
This animation presents a 3D digital model with transparent textiles, allowing viewers to see inside and through the garment, which offers a deeper understanding of how the pattern pieces connect and interact. The animation was created by combining 90 individually rendered frames, resulting in a seamless 360° turntable view of the digital garment. Still images of digital garment rendering with transparent textiles from the front, side-front and floor-up perspectives.

Project description:
This animation showcases a pattern cutting investigation using digital garment simulation technology, CLO3D and Blender, with an archival garment to examine past pattern cutting methods. Focusing on a Bill Gibb artefact, housed at the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection, the garment was examined and measured over three observations, informing a reinterpretation of the garment’s pattern cutting approach. The project aims to uncover previously hidden techniques embedded in the garment, revealing insights from the past to the consciousness of new audiences.
