.1-2 slide of a student wearing a reconstructed 1450 sideless surcote made by Joan Barlow for the opening of the People's Palace theatre in 1937.

The People's Palace Theatre is near Mile End, London. The original People's Palace was opened in 1887 by Queen Victoria and was built to provide cultural activities for the people of East London. On the 26th of February 1931 The Queens Hall (the large concert hall inside the palace) was completely destroyed by a devastating fire. It was rebuilt beside the original Queen's building and opened on the 13th February 1937. In keeping with the original purpose it was built as a Theatre and Cinema with 1,600 seats and was operated as such for many years. It is now part of Queen Mary's University.
