I’m Done With This Shit is a solo musical about aspiring actor Jack, who after gaining a place on a one year foundation course at a drama school they can’t afford to go to, decides to accept their place and move to London anyway, making their self homeless. A year later when Jack is accepted onto an even more prestigious three-year actor training at a different drama school, they are relieved that they can get student loans and focus on their studies with the security of having their own bed. But when a guy in Jack’s class sexually assaults them during an exercise, their whole world is turned upside down and their body revolts. No matter how much Jack wants to focus, to do the work, they can’t get that feeling of him off them. But the school will help, right? Right?
I’m Done With This Shit explores the intersections of class, queerness and ambition. It’s about what happens at top drama schools when things go wrong. The friends who have your back and the teachers who don’t. It’s about learning to stand up for yourself, even if it means throwing away everything you always wanted.
This version of I’m Done With This Shit is pretty much the text as it was performed at the rehearsed reading at The King’s Head Theatre on 26th June 2023, directed by Scott Le Crass, as part of Tania Azevedo’s MT Pride Lab Season as Guest Artistic Director. The reading was performed by Jack Hart.
The creative team are continuing to develop the show, currently working towards a workshop in 2024. They hope to stage a full production of the musical in the future.
