DescriptionIssy studied BA Painting at Camberwell College of Arts. She says:
'I am an abstract painter who also works in sculpture. My paintings explore shape, colour, texture and line. My abstract shapes often have no source in the real world. My work is drawn to exploring some sense of a portal or an opening to look into, and I create this through layering and areas of negative space. I think of this process as a way of breaking up the canvas and trying to expand beyond its two-dimensional boundaries. I make this work in part because for me abstraction is a form of escapism into a new world where the only things that matter can be as simple as the formal elements of paint. I have realised that my practice is inevitably influenced by narcolepsy, a condition that I live with day to day. I experience the world differently to others and painting allows me to explore this visually'.
