DescriptionKaren studied PG Diploma Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts. She says this piece 'is constructed using neon orange HiVis fabric pockets which have been sewn together to form a piece of bunting for celebration and protesting violence against bodies. The work references the tie-on detachable pockets worn by women of all classes from the 17th-19th centuries. These pockets, where women kept their belongings safe, were often hidden under skirts. I'm drawing on the aesthetics of advertising, the domestic and the municipal to investigate the tensions between safety and power, protection and control, and visibility and vulnerability.'
