''Inward Island' examines the exclusionary politics of contemporary England through the metaphor of landscape. Its spoken narrative links the discourse to images of the countryside and English Channel. The narration is poetic and sparse, enveloped by sonar pulses, manipulated audio from political marches and field recordings. Colourisation is used on landscape sequences, producing a transformation that contrasts with the unnerving soundtrack. The colours of the landscape and sea - green and blue - and their associated meanings thread different sections of the commentary and reflect layers of the hostile environment. Through metaphor, the beauty of the landscape is revealed, then reversed.'
