Uncover

Date: 2019
Artist: Silje Ree (Norwegian)
Dimensions:
20.8 x 15.6cm
Medium: Digital print, Polaroid photographs, handbound
Object number: UAC 1013
DescriptionSilje studied MA Book Arts at Camberwell College of Arts. Her artist's statement says that 'This piece is a response to Denise Hawrysio’s Cover-to-Cover project inspired by Michael Snow’s book Cover to Cover (1975). It examines the process of viewing and emphasises the camera and the artist’s involvement in viewing. Ree’s vision was to use images taken from Norway inspired by an overexposed Polaroid photograph of her sister captured in 2014. On her following trip to Norway, she shot a series of new Polaroids and photographed them with her phone camera in nature. The resulting book looks at memory through overlapping, fading and the movement of the page. Polaroid photos within book projects dramatically increase production cost; however, the nature of the project welcomes re-photographing and places a focus on the process and development of photos.'
