Title:La Dieu Bleu
DescriptionSash, part of a single costume for the role of pilgrim - this character is sometimes historically referred to as "Indian".

The accessory was designed by Leon Bakst for the Ballet Russes production of La Dieu Bleu (The Blue God), which opened in 1912. The sash has a label to the reverse which reads "Leon Wocikowsk [sp] indjian [sp]" which suggests the garment was worn by dancer Leon Woizikovsky.

The black satin sash is hand-painted with a repeat pattern of green triangles. It would have likely been worn tied around the waist.

The sash formed part of a single costume which also included a hat (see BRS.A.02 or BRS.A.07).
