DescriptionLydia studied BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts. She says:
'These artworks are from a project called ‘1,000 Indias’. The context of this body of work is about reconnecting with my family’s history and culture and the aim is to communicate atmosphere to the viewer in a variety of ways. By starting with autobiographical text and reportage drawings, I developed a number of processes to explore the relationship between place and memory.
I translated the work to screenprint, and used the intuitive narrative of the process to determine the outcome of the image and continue to explore this relationship between place and memory. By continuing to work on top of the prints by painting and drawing on top of them, I investigate how lines and layers inform the narrative.'
