DescriptionThis print is one from the series Go Sekku no Uchi (五節句之内文月, the five festivals) published to celebrate Fuduki (文月).
This print is probably a scene from a Kabuki play based on the story of ‘Taiheiki (太平記)', a piece of historical literature depicting the upheavals of the Nanbokucho period. The Taiheiki was made into Kabuki and Ningyo Joruri (人形浄瑠璃, puppet theatre) in the Edo period, and this print probably depicts the tragic family Saito in the story.
