[Design for a Chair: Eagle Insurance Company]

Date: 1900
Maker: William Richard Lethaby (1857-1931)
Dimensions:
267 x 210 mm (26.7 x 21 cm)
Image: 160 x 180 mm (16 x 18 cm)
Sheet: 267 x 212 mm (26.7 x 21.2 cm)
Medium: Pen and ink with pencil on paper.
Object number: F.69.2
DescriptionSketched designs for a chair with a padded seat and back rest. Front elevation, perspective view and details. Notes in Lethaby's hand. Padded back rest stitched in diamond shapes with the letters "EC" and the date "1900", which would have been tooled or embroidered onto the leather. Detail of the studs piercing the leather and wood to hold it secure (cross section). Drawing on the verso looks like it may be a very rough design for a desk with in-built drawers (possibly for the Eagle Insurance building too).
