DescriptionWomen in 15th century Burgundian dress (hanging sleeves and headdress); Star of David and fleur-de-lis motifs, large codex/book, beds and rugs. Christine de Pisan (the French poet) can be seen (in the blue dress) handing a book, probably containing her poetry to Ysabeau of Bavaria, seated on the left in a lavishly embroidered burgundy dress.
Mounted. Women in 15th century Burgundian dress (hanging sleeves, headdress'); Star of David and fleur-de-lis motifs, large codex/book, beds and rugs. This is in fact a copy of a small miniature which is held in the British Library, Wing may have made drawings from before the actual object though the colours are probably a shade more vibrant than the original. The miniature shows Christine de Pisan offering her book to Ysabeau of Bavaria. Christine de Pisan wrote delicate love poetry at a time when literature and the visual arts were particularly flourishing in France.
