DescriptionYellow Faces Brooch by Si Xing (Season Cheng)
Despite quite a few South-East Asian cultures having a dog meat-eating custom, the Chinese have been particularly criticised for it, and there are lots of insulting jokes dedicated to the practice. Well, some of them are hilarious I do admit.
One of my main concepts is to visualise “labelling” stereotypes. The gold-plated name brooch is a simple form of showing an identity, in this case, being an exotic dog eater, which is one of the stereotypes people make fun of. Referencing brand logo plates from designer bags, something people are proud to display, further amplifies the satire; how one should be “proud” to have this label.
