DescriptionSet of 5 stainless steel 'Inka' 'Satinsteel’ soup spoons, designed by Erik Herlow. Manufactured by Norsk Stålpress (Norwegian Steel Press) of Bergen, Norway. The article number is 133/1. The soup spoons are in their original presentation window box. The box holds 6 spoons; one of them is missing from the box.

A maker’s stamp is engraved on the back of each spoon “Inka Stainless 12-12 Norway”. An information leaflet about the Inka and Maya flatware range by Norsk Stålpress AS is included in the box.

ProvenanceThe object was acquired for the Inner London Education Authority’s (ILEA) Circulating Design Collection, operational from 1951-1976. The collection was donated to Camberwell College of Arts in 1989.
NotesErik Herlow trained as an architect at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts; he also designed exhibition pavilions and worked as an Artistic Consultant to the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory. Herlow designed surface patterns for modern cutlery sets, his silver hollowware for A. Michelsen are regarded as exceptional examples of modern industrial design.
