DescriptionClaire studied MA Photography at London College of Communication. She says:
'The series 'Vertraut' features my grandmother and me and looks at the constraints and dynamics inherent in inter-generational relationships. Being of two different generations we are at opposite stages of our lives, rather than developing together. As we share important and formative moments, our relationship has undergone a role-reversal. The grandparent, once the one to look after her younger relation now requires help herself. I wanted to portray the feeling of complicity and discrepancy that grows out of these dynamics. By moving myself into the picture, I also wanted to address the power relation between portrayer and portrayed.
Over time my grandmother's house has become a refuge from the outside world. It is as though a domestic border has been created, which presents an emotional and physical boundary. '
